My name is Paige Dinneny. I am 19 years old. I am from suburban New Jersey. I spin flag in the Flag Corps with the Marching Virginians (Go Hokies!). I am an active member of Wesley on campus ministry. I plan on joining the Biochemistry Club. I really enjoy doing volunteer work. I’ve gone on six trips to help repair stranger’s homes to make them warmer, safer, and dryer. I am friendly and kind to strangers. I’m studying biochemistry so I can go to Medical School. After medical school I would like to become a doctor in the military or work with doctors without borders. I love science and I love chemistry. I want to use these things to make other people’s lives better and easier. I chose Serve for a lot of reasons. I wanted to be a part of a community that shared my interests. I wanted to be a part of a community that made giving back to the community a priority. I wanted to meet people who wanted to serve their communities who were studying in different disciplines than me. It’s easy to see how one might serve their community studying to go into medicine, or as an engineer to improve people’s lives. I know these are not the only ways to serve and I know that I don’t need to complete my degree before I can impact my community. I wanted to see what other people thought that it meant to serve their communities. I wanted to collaborate with other students to make communities better. I want to learn things from my peers. I want to hear their thoughts and ideas. I hope they can also learn things from me as well. I was also hoping to make some good friends. I feel like most of the things I’ve done in college are with the hope of coming out of them with new friends. I was really antisocial in my dorm last year so I’m trying to put in an effort to break those habits of avoiding speaking to the people I live with. I also don’t just want to have friends I want to be a good friend. I want to support others during their time here at tech because let’s face it, college isn’t exactly a cake walk.
